Chhattisgarh is the eastern side of Madya Pradesh (West Central India). It is still flatish and quite rural. Moving east, the plains give way to small remnants of rain forest and wetlands. Chilka Lake (Orissa) has been designated under the Convention of Wetlands of International Importance as being especially significant waterfowl habitats.
Orrissa contains the ‘rice bowl' taking advantage of the fresh water wetlands for cultivation and a growing torist industry as the traditional destinations of Goa and Cochin cater for increasingly affluent clientele.
Industries
Korba is the power capital of India providing a surplus of both coal fired and hydroelectric power. Coal is a key resource along with ferro-alloys and aluminium. Although reliant on agriculture; biotechnology and I.T. are targeted for growth.
